EVALUATION RESULTS OF FULL APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED IN THE FRAME OF THE GRANT AND TRAINING PROGRAMME WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF PROJECT “SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE FOR SUSTAINABLE BALKANS”

More than 300 000 EUR for strengthening CSO capacities in the Western Balkans

The 10 best project proposals submitted by CSOs from Albania, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo* were selected to be financed under the Grant and Training Programme within the framework of project “Sustainable agriculture for sustainable Balkans: Strengthening advocacy capacities of CSOs and developing policies in the Western Balkans”.

Total of 44 organisations have been evaluated after submitting their full applications out of 48 that have participated in the Training and Coaching components of the Programme. Out of those 44 evaluated, 10 best advocacy proposals have been selected for granting – 3 from Serbia, 2 from FYROM, 3 from Albania and 2 from Montenegro, representing 10 leading and 27 partner civil society organisations.  

Independent three-member evaluation committee has evaluated full applications on the basis of the objective criteria clearly defined and available to applicants in advance and have selected the best project proposals aimed at advocacy for sustainable agriculture.  

Evaluation Committee has included renown experts in the fields of agriculture, rural development, nature conservation with experience in organisational capacity building:

 1. Dubravka Velat is a consultant and trainer, with 25 years of experience in fostering civic and democratic development through civil society capacity building in IPA countries, specifically Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.  
2. Boris Erg is a trained expert with 20 years of experience in nature conservation and natural resource management. His track record has included civil society, public agencies, and international organizations.   3. Dragana Tar is a local and rural development specialist with combined experience in environmental field, organizational capacity building and support to quality orientation in food production systems.  

The selected projects cover a range of topics such as: consumer protection, water policy, organic agriculture, farm animal health and welfare, national and local funding of agriculture, traditional agriculture landscape protection and other topics.  

Full list of selected projects and applicant organisations is available in the following table. The organisations are listed alphabetically. Total fund for strengthening advocacy capacities of CSOs for sustainable agriculture is greater than 300.000 euros and includes costs of trainings on advocacy and organisational development, providing support for development of full applications (coaching) and financing of CSO’s projects.  

Let us be reminded  

The organisations invited to submit proposals for granting were previously selected on the basis of the quality of their project ideas to participate in the Grant and Training Programme, aimed to strengthen capacities for advocacy for sustainable agriculture in the Western Balkans. This programme is made of three components:

1. Training of selected CSOs on organisational development, internal governance and advocacy (November/December 2016)

2. Coaching for writing project proposals in the area of sustainable agriculture. CSOs will be provided with expert support for development of full applications (January-March 2017)

3. Granting CSOs. 10 best advocacy project proposals for sustainable agriculture will be granted (June 2017 – June 2018).  

Regional project “Sustainable agriculture for sustainable Balkans: Strengthening advocacy capacities of CSOs and developing policies in the Western Balkans” is aimed at strengthening advocacy capacities of CSOs using research, training and networking.  

Project is implemented by consortium of CSOs from Albania (Institute for Environmental Policy – IEP), FYROM (FLOROZON), Kosovo* (NGO AKTIV) and Montenegro (Center for Protection and Research of Birds – CZIP), led by Organisation for Respect and Care of Animals – ORCA from Serbia. The project lasts four years (2016-2019) and is funded by the European Union, represented by European Commission, Directorate General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) as part of Civil Society Facility and Media Programme 2014-2015. Total budget of the project is 960.760 EUR.
