TRAINING PROGRAMME “SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE FOR SUSTAINABLE BALKANS” FOR CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS HAS STARTED

Training programme for civil society organisations in the Western Balkans on the topic of advocacy and organisational development has started in the frame of the “Sustainable agriculture for sustainable Balkans” project. During the past four days, trainings for the first group of civil society organisations were held in Kragujevac and after that, we are expected to hold trainings for two more groups of CSOs in Skopje and Zrenjanin.

Aim of the trainings is to build capacities of civil society organisations in the Western Balkans for advocacy in area od sustainable agriculture. After the trainings organisations will be in a position to put their experience and their work in the frame of advocacy, recognise the importance of strategic planning and understand main elements of organisational development. Trainings are led by Vukosava Crnjanski, trainer with many years of experience in supporting civil society organisations on the topics of advocacy, organisational development, strategic planning, project writing and communication.

Training participants are civil society organisations that applied to the call for the Grant & Training Programme “Sustainable agriculture for sustainable Balkans”. Total of 114 project proposals have been received representing 283 organisations from Albania, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo* (114 leading and 169 partner organisations).

From these, independent three-member evaluation committee has selected 48 organisations in total to participate in the Grant & Training programme, noting their project ideas as those with potential to be developed in effective advocacy campaigns for sustainable agriculture, within the framework of further Programme components aimed at development of full project application. That includes 18 organisations from Serbia, 10 from Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, 8 from Albania, 6 from Montenegro and 6 from Kosovo*.   CSOs that have been selected to participate in the Programme are listed in the table.   Beside 48 civil society organisations selected to participate in the Grant & Training Programme “Sustainable agriculture for sustainable Balkans”, 13 partner organisations in the frame of CSOnnect programme will also participate in the trainings owing to the funds provided by REC and SIDA.  

ORCA as leading partner of the consortium of 13 civil society organisations has started implementation of the institutional grant in the frame of “Support to civil society in Serbia in area of environmental protection (CSOnnect)” programme. CSOnnect programme is implemented by Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe – REC office in Serbia with financial support from Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).   Let us be reminded   Programme is conducted as part of the the Grant & Training Programme for CSOs aiming to support advocacy initiatives in the field of sustainable agriculture in the Western Balkans. The programme is made of three components:   Training of selected CSOs on organisational development, internal governance and advocacy (November and December 2016) Coaching for writing project proposals in the area of sustainable agriculture (January – March 2017) Granting for 10 best advocacy project proposals for sustainable agriculture in the maximum amount of 25.000 euros per grant (May 2017 – May 2018).   The project lasts four years (2016-2019) and is funded by the European Union, represented by European Commission, Directorate General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) as part of Civil Society Facility and Media Programme 2014-2015. Total budget of the project is 960.760 EUR.  

Total fund for building capacities of civil society organisations for advocacy in area of sustainable agriculture is over 300.000 euros, out of which 220.000 will be invested in financing activities of the civil society organisations that will write the best project proposals.   Regional project Sustainable agriculture for sustainable Balkans: Strengthening advocacy capacities of CSOs and developing policies in the Western Balkans” is aimed to strengthening capacities of civil society organisations (CSOs) for advocacy, using research, training and networking.   Project is implemented by a regional consortium of CSOs from Albania (Institute for Environmental Policy – IEP), FYROM (FLOROZON), Kosovo* (NGO AKTIV) and Montenegro (Center for Protection and Research of Birds – CZIP), led by Organisation for Respect and Care of Animals – ORCA from Serbia. The project lasts for four years (2016-2019) and is funded by the European Union, represented by European Commission, Directorate General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) as part of Civil Society Facility and Media Programme 2014-2015. Total budget of the project is 960.760 EUR.
